Did standard install, went through default screens. Took a long time to load. Not sure if it restarted, but it looked that way. happy mac, spinning color wheel, nothing happened. No keyboard commands did anything.
pressed reset on front of computer. Restarted. opened OS X. First thing I tried, it insisted that I start from OS 9.1. It came with an OS 9.1 disk, so I stuck it in, restarted (without logging out), and it gave me a choice of OSes to start from. I chose 9.1 (off the install disk). It can't print "before you install, " and the I'stalling 9.1 .pdf won't start because "the boot disk is locked."
initiated 9.1 install. It allowed me to choose an installation disk, and a "clean" install under options (not obvious... all one could do was experiment with "options" and "go back."
opted not to customize. install said it would take 20 minutes.
"Problems were encountered reading the source file "Big System Morsels". Installation cannot continue.

Use Drive SEtup on the 9.1CD. Use Drive Setup to create 2 partitions. Split down the middle. Format in Mac OS Extended (HFS+). Custom setup under initialization.
Install OS 9.1 on one partition. Reboot off that partition, make sure it's setup right. Run the setup assistant to do the net connections. Make sure they can browse and print.
Put OS X in with OS 9 running. Run the installer. It will restart for me. It will ask which drive it wants to install on. Select and go forward.
Go through the OS X setup. Answer questions.
9.1 failed, but boots off the hd if the cd isn't in the bay. wont get on the net, though.

Step 1 is "Upgrade to Mac OS 9.2"
I ran Mac OS 9.2.1 update, and .smi file, and tried to open "Before You Install." A stop box says "SimpleText cannot open this document. It may be in use by someone else." After a long pause, a female digitized vice reads the box to me. I click on it and "Sytem Error -43 occurred." This time the female voice says "It's not my fault," and reads the message.
I decide to go into 9.1 native mode (I have the whole OS on another partition). So I go into System Preferences (formely Control Panels) and use the Startup Disk program to choose "Mac OS 9.1 on OS 9.1 Drive" and restart
